Dr. Luis W. Lu  

 

Dr. Luis Washington Lu, Eye-MD, F.A.C.S. is a Medical Doctor and Medical Director and Senior Consultant at the Elk County Eye Clinic.

After college, he graduated from the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University with honors in 1975. An internship and one year of training in general surgery were spent before his formal training in ophthalmology at the HHC Division of The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. He had a year of Fellowship training in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, and he held a teaching appointment at Columbia until he relocated to St. Marys, PA in 1982.

Dr. Lu holds a clinical instructor appointment at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is an American Board Certified Ophthalmologist and certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery in the specialty of cataract surgery. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, he was the past president of the Elk-Cameron County Medical Society.

Dr. Lu has contributed more than 30 publications in American and foreign literature and has written multiple chapters for books on ophthalmology. In addition, he has written over 450 articles on Clinica Opthalmalogy for the Latin American Society of Cataract, Glaucoma and Refractive Surgery. He was written two textbooks and designed multiple eye instruments. Lu has participated in over 340 presentations in national and international meetings and has been invited by numerous foreign national eye societies as a guest speaker. He has performed demonstrative live surgery in different countries and is a member of multiple national and international societies including the World Eye Foundation.

Dr. Brett J. Karlik  

Dr. Brett J Karlik is a Pittsburgh native who began his undergraduate career at Duquesne University. He distinguished himself by gaining early acceptance into medical school and earning a medical degree from the Drexel College of Medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Karlik went on to complete a surgical residency while living in New York. During that time he served as the Chief of Ophthalmology for Long Island’s Nassau University Medical Center. He is a skilled ophthalmic surgeon, versatile in performing no stitch micro-incision cataract surgery, pterygium excision, eyelid blepharoplasty, botox treatment, and laser refractive vision correction. Dr. Karlik has performed hundreds of cataract and laser surgical procedures.
